Lena Widmann

Surreal and sensual textile sculptures

Blurring the boundaries between art, sculpture and fashion, Lena Widmann’s work is driven by a profound love for textiles and a passion for blending disciplines. Her creative practice seamlessly marries the commercial and the bespoke, from commercial design to retro-inspired, limited-edition nightwear and lingerie through her label, Lenagerie and her high-end sneaker brand Spitz. Her artistic creations – surreal and sensual textile objects – emerge from the fertile fusion of nature and the human body, emphasizing the deep relevance of tactility and her intimate journey exploring the female body in her expression.

Lena draws inspiration from her collection of works by 20th-century female surrealists, who depicted the female body as a self-aware subject deeply connected to nature, rather than merely an object to be observed. She channels this inspiration into crafting a world that is both tangible and surreal, guided by the traditional craft of silk flower creation yet unbounded by reality’s constraints.

For Lena, creating is about more than just producing beautiful objects; it’s about offering others the chance to ‘dream in someone else’s mind.’ She invites her audience to question the very nature of reality, asking provocatively: Isn’t realism just the illusion of a few megalomaniacs convinced that their personal surrealism should be universal?
